When you meet Funmi, you feel warmth, peace, and quiet strength. Her story is not one of
overnight success or constant clarity—it’s one of faith, endurance, rediscovery, and deep
intention. In this conversation, she invited us into the path that led to The Woman and
More—a community and calling rooted in the truth that women are more than the roles
they’ve been given. From loss to joy, unknown to knowing, from Nigeria to the U.S., law to
physical therapy to entrepreneurship, Funmi has gracefully followed God’s leading at every
turn. I pray her words speak to your heart the way they spoke to mine.

Who is Funmi Shoyomi?
I always start by saying I’m a daughter of the King—God is my Father, and that alone
gives me exceeding joy. I may not be royalty by earthly standards, but knowing I
belong to Him gives me peace and confidence.
Beyond that, I’m a wife, a mother, a believer, and someone who loves to see others
thrive. Originally, I was trained as a lawyer before moving to the U.S., where I shifted
into physical therapy, specifically pediatric physical therapy. I love what I do, but I also
knew there is more that I am made for. At my core, I’m someone who loves simplicity
and a peaceful life. I don’t get angry easily—not because I can’t, but because I’ve
learned not to feed off of what’s around me. I live my life through the lens of, “What
would God say about this?”—whether it’s how I speak, dress, or show up. Everything
flows from that.
What Is The Woman and More, and What Inspired It?
The Woman and More was birthed out of layers—my own story, my mother’s journey,
and the stories of women I’ve encountered along the way. I lost my father in an
accident when I was three years old. My mom raised my sibling and I until she
remarried when I was about 11. Watching her carry the weight of parenting and
provider alone shaped me. Even after she remarried, that foundational strength I saw
in her stayed with me.
As I stepped into adulthood, got married and joined my husband in the U.S., I paused
my legal career to raise our children. But because I’m deeply ambitious, sitting still never felt like the whole picture. I tried many things—making hair, creating beaded
jewelry, considering a master’s in law—but something still felt missing. I was busy, but
not fulfilled.
So I started praying. And I mean intentional prayer—focused, heart-cry prayers about
purpose. I would sit in my room and just talk to God. I started asking, “What is the
thing I should be doing?” And gradually, the answer came through.
How Did You Know What God Was Calling You To Do?
I began to look back. In 2012, I launched a Facebook page called “Encourage a Soul”.
Every day, I’d post encouragement—not because anyone asked me to, but because I
wanted to pour hope into people. Eventually, life and motherhood took over, and I
paused it. But in those quiet moments, God started showing me that—the ability to
uplift, to cheer people on, to help them reach their potential—is a gift given to me.
He reminded me of all the times I shared resources with other women, helped them
with their babies, cheered them through their struggles. I thought I was just being a
good friend. God showed me I was walking in my purpose, even when I didn’t realize
it.
How Did Your Mother’s Story Influence This Vision?
My mom and I have always loved each other, but we definitely had our clashes. I was
strong-willed and always thought she loved my brother more than me. But as I grew
up and became a mother myself, everything changed. One day, I sat in my living room,
reflecting on her life—and that’s when the idea for The Woman and More truly took
shape.
I saw how she held things together without a partner for so long. I saw her resilience,
her sacrifices, and her silent strength. I thought about how many women like her
exist—women who are surviving but don’t know they’re allowed to thrive. Women who
are faithful, yet feel forgotten, women doing it all, but unsure if it’s enough.
God spoke to me clearly: these women need to be reminded that they are more. More
than being called a woman. More than being a mother. More than being a wife. More
than the career title. More than the beauty. But that they are fully known, fully loved
by Him—and that’s enough.
What’s Next for The Woman and More?
This is still a journey in motion. I’m continuing to build this platform and community
with God’s help. It’s about helping women walk in their full identity—not based on
achievements, but based on who God says they are.
My dream is to see women transformed—spiritually, mentally, emotionally. I want
them to know they’re not alone, and that their value isn’t tied to what they do but to
who they are in Christ. I’m still learning, still growing, still listening to God every step
of the way in order to help other women become fulfilled.
Final Words
I’m not here because I had it all figured out. I’m here because God was faithful—even
when I felt lost and unfulfilled. If there’s one thing I hope women take away from me,
it’s this: you don’t have to settle for just striving and surviving. You are endowed with
every ability to thrive. Be intentional in taking steps towards living purposefully. You
are more.
